Graham's disc valve was ultra reliable. I dont think it failed once in all the years he raced it. He had a ht problem with it once. Need to get that fella to get the 150 back out on the track eh Keith!

Hi All

Yes my Group 6 Disc Valve motor is still mostly together. It was 1982 at Bruntingthorpe wih Jim Lindsay of Motorcycle Mechanics that we run the GP240 & my Disc Valve race bike. 15.1 sec 80mph terminal with the 4.00 x 10" Avon rear tyre rubbng the bump stop! It was ok for short sprints but ran too hot to be competative - Air cooled cast iron 200cc TV crank using DT175MX Piston. Not bad for it's day, also it was based on RG500 race bike parts with added weight on the flywheel side. It was Steve Moore @ Heron Suzuki & Mike Hayman @ Two/Four Accessories (Lambretta Importers) that started the project, Terry & myself sorted it's ignition out (Luminition/Battery Coil) & did a new cylinder unit.

Hope this sheds some more light on Disc Valve engine units.

Hey.....Hello Ian, good to hear from you. I read on the LCGB site that you recently had some surgery, I hope this went successfully and your feeling much better.
I was really suprised that my memory served me well recalling your disc valve engine building in Motorcycle Mechanics mag...it makes a nice change!!
Mick Hayman is a name not often mentioned now but I remember him riding his group 4 machine to an astonishing 15.48sec run at Long Marston in July 1978. I still get incredulous looks from todays sprinters if I mention this!

Frank.
