I began Sprinting my Italjet Dragster in 2005 when Paul Robinsons X-Race was still going. Over the years the numbers of entrants declined and Paul Robinson decided to take a break from Sprinting and X-Race.
The majority of X-Race events ran along side Straightliners events, which made it easy for the remaining Scooter Sprinters to continue sprinting at Straightliners events developing relationships with Trevor Duckworth & the crew and a number of the Bike Sprinters.
After X-Race, Trevor and I had a discussion with regards Straightliners having a Scooter Sprinting Championship, and he suggested I came up with rules to cover Scooter Classes. I called upon the help of some of the other Scooter Sprinters who are local to me to see if this could be done and we decided to give it a go.
Unfortunately, the number of Scooter Sprinters didn’t improve and at last years AGM Trevor introduced some new Bike Classes to improve the Bike Competition, and removed the Scooter Classes. Another discussion ensued and it was suggested that for Scooters to continue Sprinting in Competition at Straightliners events we would need to introduce our own Sprinting Events to run along side Straightliners. We would be responsible for arranging the Scooter Classes including providing Rules, Trophies etc. which meant to do this we would have to get some “Bums on Seats” at the events.
I, like the other Scooter Sprinters didn’t want to stop Competitive Sprinting and I spent my time in a traffic jam on the way home from the AGM thinking how we could do this, or even if we could do this. And that’s where I came up with 100mphscooter.com.
By developing 100mphscooter.com online Ultimate High Performance Scooter Club we have managed to increase the number of riders at events and have even had a number of Scooter Clubs visit events as spectators only for some of them to take part and take home trophies for their efforts.
With help, and sponsorship from Twist & Go Magazine, Scootering Magazine, AF Rayspeed and SES Tuning we were successful with our first Championship in 2009.
100mphscooter.com along with Straightliners will continue in 2010, hopefully improving standards, getting more “Bums on Seats” at the events, and assist more Scooters to achieve that elusive 100mph.
Currently with 41 Registered Members from all over the world, we would like to thank all who have supported us in our first year and look forward to seeing you all again at a 2010 Straightliners/100mphscooter.com event.
You don’t have to have the fastest scooter in town, you don’t have to spend a fortune on your scooter to take part, and you don’t have to attend every event on the calendar. The Drag Strip is probably the only place where you can legally see just how well your Scooter performs, and the only ticket you will get is a timing ticket to prove your performance.
The site is constantly being updated and improved so please take a look around and contact us with your thoughts/criticism, http://www.100mphscooter.com/index.html
If you haven’t registered yet why not?
All the Best for 2010.
Cheers.
Pete.
